Teachers Day: What A Teacher Should Not Be.

Teachers day is a day dedicated to the teacher community, a day for thanking teachers for all the impact they have had on the life's of children. BUT , the impact can either be positive or negative. While there are teachers who turn around the lives of children in a positive way, there are those who can do just the opposite.

I was myself a teacher. For not less than 14 years in a leading school of Delhi, so I can relate to the teacher community.

What I cannot relate to, is the fact that children who are an average lot are discarded, demeaned, their parents called out and ridiculed in parent teacher meetings. Every child is not someone who can get a 90 % score, but then that child my be good in something else. For those reading the blog, it may be a cliche, this statement but still true.

I am a certified trauma therapsit and have many adults who come with performace anxiety and fear of a boss or a presentattion. It is quite debilitating, and thats why one reaches out to a therapist. I can cite so many examples of adults fearing authority. Mostly it is stemming from their childhood experiences of a figure of authority. Could be an angry teacher or an aggressive principal or an angry parent because the child had scored less marks. Why should little children who are at the thores of blooming be subject to this treatment?  I may be sounding a bit harsh, but that is a hard reality.

Nonthless, there are also life changer Heads of schools, teachers and even assistants who are empathetic, caring and go an extra mile to fight for their children, to support them and care for them. 

This day, I wish to express my gratitude to a few visionsaries who have built the foundations of children in their capacity of beaing leaders. I wish to express my gratitude to the persons who changed my life and changed the trajectory of my life. There may be thousands of good teachers and heads of schools, but in my little world, I can recount but a few.

Though the list of those is few. However,  they remain the epitome of being heart centered innovators in changing the life's of childen. @Mrs Meeta Rai , Ms KomalSood , Ms Parul Shrivatav,  Ms Rajni Khanduja,  Ms, Annie Koshie, Ms Shivani Chandra, Ms Nandita Yadav,Ms Archana Maiik, Ms Poonam  Bhasin.... 

May the light keep shining in the lives of the teachers and the students.
